On September 6th, Hurricane Ike (Category 4) descended upon Salt Cay and the Turks and Caicos Islands with winds of 120-160 mph. As you can imagine, the damage was extensive and wide-spread. The power has been out since the storm hit and many people lost their homes. No lives where lost but many people were displaced as their homes where destroyed by the winds.
Through relief efforts of many, many people, Salt Cay is rebuilding. Turks Caicos Utilities arrived this past week to begin the process of restoring power to the island.
Through the relief efforts of expats and islanders, roofs have been patched and new roofs will be going on soon. People have pulled together to help one another. The list of those coming to the aid of the community is long – and I thank God for every one of those dedicated people who have worked tirelessly to help each other.
